Development and reproductive performance of beef heifers supplemented with brown rice meal and/or protected fat on temperate grasslands R. Bras. Zootec.
Pizzuti,Luiz Angelo Damian; Alves Filho,Dari Celestino; Brondani,Ivan Luiz; Restle,João; Freitas,Leandro da Silva; Argenta,Flânia Mônego; Machado,Diego Soares; Cardoso,Gilmar dos Santos.
The response of energy supplementation was evaluated on the development and reproductive performance of beef heifers on temperate grasslands. Twenty-eight Charolais × Nellore heifers, with initial average age of 18 months and initial live weight of 274.9 kg were utilized. The animals were maintained on oat + ryegrass pasture and distributed in the following treatments: no supplementation (NS): heifers kept exclusively on pasture; MEG: supplementation with protected fat Megalac®; BRM: supplementation with brown rice meal; BRM+MEG: supplementation with BRM + protected fat. The average final weight of the heifers was of 403.4 kg and corresponded to 89.5% of the adult weight. The body condition of heifers increased linearly with daily increase of 0.012 points,...

Effect of supplementing finishing pigs with different sources of chromium on performance and meat quality R. Bras. Zootec.
Peres,Louise Manha; Bridi,Ana Maria; Silva,Caio Abércio da; Andreo,Nayara; Barata,Cátia Chilanti Pinheiro; Dário,Julie Gabriela Nagi.
The objective was to evaluate the dietary supplementation of different sources of chromium (inorganic: chromium sulfate and chelated: chromium-methionine) during the finishing period of pigs to obtain improvements in the animal performance, and carcass and meat quality. The statistical design was randomized blocks, where 44 barrows, with an initial weight 60.49±5.12 kg, were divided into four blocks (heavier, heavy, light and lighter) according to initial weight. The experimental diets were isoenergetic and isonutrient, except for the chromium level. The treatments were divided as follows: control (without chromium), control + 200 ppb of inorganic chromium (chromium sulfate), and control + 200 ppb of chelated chromium (chromium-methionine). In the...

Meta-analysis of the immunocastration technique (anti-GnRH) for male bovines in the finishing phase PAB
Machado,Diego Soares; Joner,Guilherme; Pereira,Lucas Braido; Pötter,Luciana; Brondani,Ivan Luiz; Alves Filho,Dari Celestino.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to analyze the effects of immunocastration on the performance and carcass quality of steers in the finishing phase, compared with non-castration and surgical castration. Data from ten studies with records of 1,261 male bovines were analyzed. The studies included in the meta-analysis necessarily contained treatments with immunocastration specifically against the gonadotropin-releasing hormone. Each study was considered as a random effect in the statistical model used. The data were tested for homogeneity of variances and residue normality, and then subjected to the analysis of variance. Means were compared by Student’s t-test. Non-castrated steers showed greater daily weight gain, feed efficiency, slaughter and hot...
